Taoyuan Museum

The design of Taoyuan Art Museum is originated from the understanding of the local climate where large shaded area is created with open courtyard and lush landscape to engage the public with all kinds of art in covered piazzas and squares.

The exhibition halls are all lifted to the second level and above to free up the ground level with public amenities such as the Library, cafe, restaurants, shops and the entrance lobby. By doing so, we are able to connect and activate the adjacent neighborhood with the Museum to form a larger Art-inspired community.

The museum was supported with four major cores and long-span trusses to allow for column free spaces and maximum flexibility in art curation. The design of interior also allows for natural light and black box condition depending on the requirement of exhibition where light level can be adjusted accordingly.

The design of Taoyuan Art Museum by Q-LAB & Mecanoo means to create a public domain with free-flowing space which engages visitors and connects community both urbanistically and architecturally.
